Charles “Charlie” Denton

Charles M. Denton is a partner in the Atlanta and Michigan offices of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and immediate past Chair of the Firm’s national Environmental Law Department. He focuses on environmental agency enforcement of defense, toxic torts and class action litigation, “Brownfields” redevelopment, compliance counseling, insurance coverage and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He serves on the Board for the Georgia Chapter of Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA), is a member of the Georgia Brownfield Association, and the Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia; he is also active with the American Bar Association including as past chair of the ABA Environmental Litigation Committee and service on the ABA Section of Litigation’s Council. Mr. Denton is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as in Georgia, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin state courts. Mr. Denton received his A.B. summa cum laude in 1978 from Ohio University, and his J.D. in 1981 from the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Nicholas “Nic” Howell

Nic Howell is a Senior Associate in King & Spalding LLP’s Environmental and Toxic Tort team. Nic is an experienced environmental litigator, including environmental citizen suits, NPDES, water withdrawal, environmental permit changes and disputes involving chemical exposure, groundwater contamination, air emissions, and storm water. Nic has presented at the ICLE Environmental Law Seminar and the ICLE Toxic and Mass Torts Seminar. Prior to private practice, Nic served as a law clerk to the Honorable J. Randall Hall of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. Nic is a graduate of the State Bar Young Lawyers Division Leadership Academy (2017), and he serves as the President of the University of Georgia School of Law Young Alumni Committee. Nic serves on the board of the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, Young professionals Advisory Committee.
