Military/Veterans Law | UGA Veterans Legal Clinic Seeks Volunteer Attorneys
Dear Section Members:
The UGA Veterans Legal Clinic seeks volunteer attorneys to help with a virtual clinic for veterans in the greater Athens region on Saturday, July 11, 2020, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Attorney participation will be entirely remote, by Zoom; no in-person contact will be required. Volunteers must have a webcam, microphone, and reliable internet connection.
Volunteer attorneys will provide referral, brief service, or quick advice only. Volunteers may choose to provide more extensive service on a pro bono or reduced rate basis; but they are not required to do so.
This virtual clinic will focus on legal issues likely to arise out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Accordingly, we seek attorneys with experience in the following areas:
– landlord-tenant.
– mortgages and foreclosure.
– unemployment compensation.
– access to public and private health insurance.
– family law, including custody, child support, and civil protective orders.
– debt management and debt collection advice for debtors.
To volunteer, send an email to Professor Alex Scherr at uga.veteransclinic@gmail.com [ mailto:uga.veteransclinic@gmail.com ] . Please provide your name, firm name, email, phone, and area of expertise. Before July 11, volunteers will receive a packet including instructions on connecting, forms to sign and other resource materials on working with veterans.
We hope that you can join us in serving the needs of veterans in the Athens area.
Alex Scherr
