Taxation Law | Virtual Settlement Days

Taxation Law | Virtual Settlement Days

Good afternoon all,

I hope everyone is staying safe.

The IRS Office of Chief Counsel contacted me about plans for Virtual Settlement Days with pro se taxpayers. These proposed Virtual Settlement Days are in response to the COVID-19 situation. Forbes recently wrote an article about Counsel’s plans [ ] .

Counsel has asked for support for this from the Tax Section.

Specifically, the IRS is looking for volunteer attorneys to help pro se taxpayers settle their tax disputes with the IRS. To qualify for volunteer assistance, these taxpayers must be pro se and have proposed liabilities less than $50,000. Counsel is looking to hold Virtual Settlement Days in July. The exact dates can be flexible to work with the volunteer’s schedule.

I hope the Tax Section can help out. This is a great opportunity to help some pro se taxpayers and to obtain Pro Bono hours. If you are interested in participating, please let me know, and I will provide more details. Also, please feel free to pass this opportunity along to anyone who may be interested.
